Grain Surfboards… Straight Outta Maine

Grain Surfboards began in the basement of a home minutes from the waves in York Beach, Maine. Mike LaVecchia combined his love of board sports with a passion for classic wooden boat-building techniques to create works of art for riding waves. With the help of some friends, Grain has grown into a full-fledged board and kit manufacturer, known for innovative and timeless designs that ride like nothing else.

Grain recently opened a new shop not far from the original garage where the company began. A combination of national press via the AP, NPR and local magazines, and the beauty of natural, sustainable wood surfboards have propelled Grain to the forefront of a growing market. The company is committed to building and riding surfboards designed to be classic interpretations of modern surfboard shapes. The Grain tradition includes reducing the impact of surfboard production by using locally produced, sustainable wood products and creatively reducing or reusing any waste left over.

The future of Grain Surfboards will include custom dream boards, new, in-line surfboard shapes, build-your-own wooden surfboard kits and apparel all produced with an eye on classic quality and timeless designs. Their motivation is riding waves on boards hand-built using classic techniques, modern shapes and local, sustainable wood.
