Robust Flavor Goes To The Philippines
April 26th, 2008 Posted in FeaturesEneri Abillar (Vapor Studio) and Allan Abillar (UNIV) recently paid a visit to the Philippines. While there they went to the infamous Tondo, aka The Smokey Mountains. This is where the poorest of the poor live amongst mountains of garbage. Families spend each day scavenging for recyclable goods and food to survive. This is the true essence of a bad neighborhood.
They also visited Bantangas Anilao, a two and half hour drive southwest of Manila. Known as the birth place of diving in the Philippines, it is also home to the Abillar family-owned fish distribution company J-31. On this particular visit the family shut down business operations for two days straight to celebrate the birthday of Alberto D. Abillar.
